Winter had wrapped the city in a sparkling white blanket.
Snowflakes danced through the chilly air. Rooftops glittered like sugar, trees wore snowy hats, and golden street lamps glowed warmly against the quiet evening sky.
But in the middle of the snowy street stood a tiny sparrow named Pipkin.
Pipkin fluffed up his little feathers.
He tucked his wings tightly against his body.
But the icy wind was still terribly cold!
"Brrr..." Pipkin chirped, shivering.
He wished he could find a warm, cozy place to rest.

The next morning, Pipkin woke up with a rumbling tummy.
"Chirp! Chirp! I need to find some breakfast!"
Pipkin hopped through the snowy streets, searching everywhere for something to eat.
Then suddenly...
SPLAT!
Something landed in the snow nearby.
Pipkin's eyes grew wide.
It was a big, golden piece of warm, crusty bread that had fallen from a baker's basket!
"Oh, what a lucky day!" Pipkin chirped happily.
The bread was huge!
It was enough to keep his little tummy full for many days.
Pipkin hopped closer.
He was just about to take his very first bite when...
Chirp... chirp...
Pipkin stopped.
What was that sound?

Pipkin looked around.
There it was!
Behind a snowy bush sat a tiny pigeon.
The little bird was trembling from the cold.
Its feathers were ruffled, and its tiny tummy was empty.
Pipkin felt a little surprised.
The pigeon was even smaller than him!
Pipkin looked at the pigeon.
Then he looked at his giant piece of bread.
His tummy rumbled.
The bread was warm.
The bread was delicious.
And there was enough to last him for a whole week!
Pipkin could keep it all for himself.
But then he noticed the little pigeon's sad, shivering eyes.
Pipkin's heart began to feel heavy.
"What should I do?" he wondered.

Pipkin thought for a moment.
Then he smiled.
"Don't worry," he chirped. "You don't have to be hungry anymore!"
Without a second thought, Pipkin broke his precious bread into two equal pieces.
He hopped over to the little pigeon and gently nudged one piece toward him.
"Here," said Pipkin. "Let's share!"
The little pigeon stared at the bread.
Then his eyes sparkled with happiness.
"Really? For me?"
Pipkin nodded.
"Of course! Food tastes even better when we share it with a friend."

The two little birds sat together in the snow and enjoyed their delicious meal.
The warm bread filled their hungry tummies.
But something else happened too.
Their hearts felt warm.
The little pigeon smiled at Pipkin.
"Thank you," he chirped. "You were kind to me when I needed help."
Pipkin smiled back.
"You don't have to thank me. We can help each other!"
From that day on, Pipkin and the little pigeon became the best of friends.
And whenever winter winds blew through the city, the two little birds stayed close together.
They discovered something very special:
Sometimes, the smallest act of kindness can bring the biggest warmth to someone's heart.
Showing compassion to those in need can make the world warmer and help you find new friends.
